I remember, as an adult, standing on a Southern California beach, watching as huge storm waves came barreling in off the coast. I stood in awe and wonder as children, probably around 10-13 years of age, courageously charged these waves in a chaotic scene of fury and power, ultimately being engulfed and thrashed by the roaring water, popping back up and paddling out for the next ride.
